Blockchain at Work

For a technology so simple that it describes itself – it is essentially a chain of blocks – there’s a lot of confusion around blockchain. Some muddle it up with cryptocurrency, Bitcoin in particular, when in fact that is just one of its many applications.

Blockchain’s key features are trust, transparency, uniqueness, traceability and speed. That’s because everything you need to know is baked into that chain of blocks, with each block recording a transaction via a mix of data and a unique identifier. If anyone attempts to tamper with that data, the entire chain is disrupted.

In this series, sponsored by Amberdata, we explore how blockchain can be used by businesses. We’ll explore its impact on decentralised finance systems, on the supply chain, on healthcare. We’ll look at success stories, emerging technologies and how it might interact with AI.

And we’ll go into detail. That might be to investigate how blockchain technology is set to change the way we vote to increase transparency of political donations. We’ll explain how blockchain could transform the energy grid with peer-to-peer electricity trading.

We also want to explore the people behind this sector. That could be startups using blockchain to disrupt existing markets – or to create entire new ones. Cryptocurrency firms looking to democratize financial systems. Blockchain experts who have been working in this sector for years.

But we’ll always come back to “blockchain at work”. Not only the technology making this happen, but the ways it will reshape the way we do business.
