Introducing Slack’s newest team member: Claude Tag
Anthropic has announced that it is launching Claude Tag on Slack, available immediately in beta for its Claude Enterprise and Team customers. The company has been using it for most of this year, according to a YouTube video presented by Lydia Hallie, part of the Claude Code team, where she says it has become “a natural way for us to work”.
To put Claude to work, Slack admins must grant it access to selected channels. At that point, anyone in the channel can tag in Claude (by writing @Claude) and it will jump in to assist. Each version of Claude is unique to its channel, so it will build up memory there but won’t be able to use that in a different channel. A necessary safety measure, as you don’t want Claude from the legal channel to share vital info with the general chat channel.
“Across Anthropic, Claude Tag opens 65% of our product pool requests,” said Hallie in the video. She shows an example of a team being a week away from shipping a new software product.
“Drew [from engineering] heard from a sales rep that one feature, scheduled exports, is the thing their biggest deals are waiting on. He doesn’t own it, so he asks the person who does. Notice that this is all multiplayer,” said Hallie.
“Nadia texts Claude, then Claude keeps up with the group thread, reacting to product decisions made in real-time. It opens the PR, and it lands the change, and the cool part is that Claude knew what the feature was and where in the code base to go.”

Slack welcomes Claude, its newest team member
“Slack is the only layer in the AI stack where teams work together,” said Rob Seaman, EVP & GM of Slack, in response to the introduction.
“Instead of a private back-and-forth, Claude Tag shows up in the open – in your channels, alongside your team – where it can see the real context of how your organisation works and make the whole company smarter in the process.
“This virtuous cycle of sharing context, building together, and generating more context is how enterprises will finally move faster, compete differently, and make AI work at real scale.”
To get started, you must be a Claude Enterprise or Team customer. Then head to your Claude account and follow four steps:
- Pair Claude Tag with your Slack workspace
- Give Claude access to your tools
- Set a limit on your organization’s monthly spend
- Test Claude in a private channel to confirm it works.
If you’re already using the Claude in Slack app, which Claude Tag replaces, then you have 30 days to migrate the service.
How much will Claude Tag cost?
Anthropic is “issuing a one-time Claude Tag usage credit to eligible organizations”, it stated. That’s worth $25,000 for a Claude Enterprise org and $2,500 for a Claude Team org with at least 10 paid seats.
“Credits are issued automatically and are scoped to your organization’s Claude Tag usage,” the company said. “The credit applies to Claude Tag usage in Slack channels, which is billed to your organization. It doesn’t cover direct messages with Claude, which are billed to individual seats.”
After this, the cost of Claude Tag will be based on tokens as usual.
