Logitech Spot integrations will now tell you if it’s too hot to work in your office

Nothing hits productivity quite like heat. For one, we Brits can’t help ourselves and spend the first ten minutes of any meeting talking about the weather, but more importantly for businesses it means people don’t work as well. According to Logitech’s research, three in five workers have nearly fallen asleep in stuffy meeting rooms.

To fight back, the company has announced ten new integrations for its workplace sensor, the Logitech Spot, which means you can now track temperature, CO2 levels and air quality in real-time. Sadly it says nothing about the quality of the meeting itself.

“With Logitech Spot’s new integrations, [facilities and IT teams] get a self-optimising footprint that can cut energy use, prevent lease overcommitment, and keep employees focused,” said Henry Levak, General Manager, Team Workspace Solutions. “By connecting with the tools our customers already use daily, building healthier, automated, and far more efficient workplaces is easier than ever.”

For those unfamiliar with Spot, this Bluetooth-equipped sensor uses what Logitech calls a “pick-and-stick mount”. It can run up to four years on a replaceable battery or you can power it over USB-C. It then connects to Logitech CollabOS host devices, including its Rally cameras and Logitech RoomMate Video Conferencing Device. If these aren’t close enough then it can use long-range LoRAWAN gateways.

Cleverly, Spot includes a radar-based sensor that means it can also detect human activity. And that can be seen in many of the enhanced integrations.

Logitech provided a number of scenarios where the new integrations can help.

Predictive Workplace Analytics. The idea here is for facilities teams to track data that allos them to anticipate busy days and ensure there’s space for your teams to work. Examples are from Planon (above), Spaceti and VergeSense, all of which combine Spot’s data with floor plans and booking data to create forecasts..

Automated Space Reservation. If space is tight, there’s nothing worse than pre-booked meeting rooms that aren’t used. Logitech Spot’s Integrations with Appspace, Robin and Zoom all use the Spot’s radar to avoid these ghost meetings, and also show others that a room is busy when people walk in.

Unified Multi-Vendor Monitoring. To avoid harassed IT team members having to fix AV systems that don’t work, integrations from Extron, Utelogy and Xyte grab Spot’s telemetry data and turn into into central dashboards. This shows the IT/facilities team if there are any issues with equipment and deliver, to quote Logitech, “actionable insights on their meeting room environment”.

Empowering Employee Wellness. While we’re not fans of the terminology, we get what Logitech means here. Basically, these integrations flag poor air quality and high temperatures, along with other environmental data (such as particulates and CO2 levels). In theory, this means employees can choose the most comfortable place to work in the building. Platforms like Utelogy also allow enterprises to link AI tools with Spot data, with the promise that managers can ask questions like, “Which meeting rooms had high bad air quality this week?”
