Gone are the days when students had to attend lectures, with most universities now live streaming sessions. But the current solutions can be clumsy and time-consuming for AV teams, problems Logitech hopes to address with its Rally Camera Streamline Kit.
“PTZ [pan, tilt, zoom] cameras with speaker tracking for lecture capture are often overly complex and expensive, adding unnecessary hardware to standard USB AV setups while creating unpredictable and distracting user experiences,” said Michele Hermann, Vice President and General Manager of Logitech for Education.
“The Rally Camera Streamline Kit is an accessible and easy-to-install solution that minimises setup complexity while enhancing both user experience and content delivery.”
Logitech promises that the kit will help presenters deliver a more “engaging experience” for their audience, whether online at the time or after the event.
That’s because lecturers can switch between preset PTZ views on the camera using supplied buttons. Meanwhile the setup should be simpler for AV teams.
The kit includes Logitech’s top-of-the-line Rally Camera, an Extension Kit, mounts and three preset buttons. The camera delivers 4K video at 30fps, with a 90° field of view with mechanical pan (± 90°) and tilt (+50°/-90°). You can define three preset locations, which is where those buttons come in.
Then there’s the Extension Kit. This includes a camera side base, which can be connected and powered up to 100m away via category cable to a control box that interfaces directly with USB-based AV equipment.
Logitech promises that its “simplified mounting options for wall, inverted National Pipe Thread (NPT) mounting and tripods along with discreet cable routing enable efficient and professional looking installations”.
It should also work with most operating systems and “most popular video collaboration and lecture capture platforms making it a versatile addition to any presentation environment”.
Universities and colleges will be able to pre-order the kit shortly (Logitech says, unhelpfully, “in the spring 2025”) via channel partners. In the UK, its suggested price is £1,999, with the Rally Camera alone costing £1,299. The US price is $2,199, €2,399 in Europe.
