Siemens and IFS join forces to close the industrial AI loop

Siemens and IFS  have announced a strategic partnership aimed at solving one of manufacturing’s most stubborn problems: the gap between how factory operations are designed and how they actually run.

Announced on 29 June 2026, the collaboration brings together Siemens’ expertise in industrial AI, engineering, automation, and manufacturing execution with IFS’s strengths in enterprise asset management and field service. The result is an end-to-end closed loop, from engineering intent to operational reality, powered by industrial AI.

The core problem both companies are targeting is well understood on the plant floor. Unplanned downtime, disconnected maintenance schedules, siloed production data, and supply chain disruption continue to erode throughput and margin. Many manufacturers still operate with systems that simply don’t talk to each other.

Closing the loop with a shared digital twin

The technical centrepiece of the partnership is a closed-loop digital twin that combines Siemens’ engineering, simulation, and manufacturing context with IFS’s service history, asset behaviour, and operational lifecycle data. Together, they plan to build a governed, auditable data fabric that spans design, simulation, factory execution, and service records, and can be trusted to operate at industrial scale.

That last point matters. 

Unlike generic AI models, industrial environments demand accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance. Even small error rates are unacceptable when decisions affect safety, compliance, and costly physical assets.

According to Siemens, IFS customers already report a 20% increase in asset uptime and a 16% reduction in unplanned downtime using its EAM platform. Adding Siemens’ digital engineering layer raises the ceiling on what’s achievable across the full product lifecycle.
