Oracle ramps up AI, cloud investment in Germany with $2bn investment

Oracle has announced it will invest $2 billion into AI and cloud infrastructure in Germany over the next five years.

It says the investment will allow it to expand its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) footprint in the country, which will also include a significant expansion of AI infrastructure in its existing Oracle Cloud Frankfurt region.

With OCIโ€™s distributed cloud, organisations can deploy more than 200 AI and cloud services at the edge, in a customerโ€™s datacentre, across clouds, or in the public cloud, the company claimed.ย

Oracle says the move will enable more public and private sector organisations to take advantage of Oracleโ€™s AI and cloud services, including its latest sovereign AI and multi-cloud capabilities such as Oracle AI Agents. At the same time, customers with data and applications that are sensitive or regulated can leverage Oracle EU Sovereign Cloud to move to the cloud.

โ€œWith our plans to invest $2 billion in AI infrastructure and cloud computing over the next five years, we are helping organisations across Germany accelerate their AI and cloud journeys,โ€ said Thorsten Herrmann, Senior Vice President and Germany Country Leader, Oracle.

Sectors mentioned include manufacturing, automotive, renewable energy, scientific research and healthcare.

Oracle’s AI Germany support

Herrmann added that Oracle is โ€œsupporting the federal governmentโ€™s objective of strengthening Germany as a hub for AI investment and innovation in Europe. With this investment, Oracle is doubling down on its commitment to helping organizations of all sizes and across every industry in Germany innovate with AI to build resilience and unlock new levels of productivity and growth.โ€

Oracle says the investment will also meet the growing demand for sovereign cloud and AI services in the German public sector and other strategic industries.

โ€œOracleโ€™s strategic investment underscores that Germany is an attractive location for digital innovations and investments,โ€ said Germanyโ€™s Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and Government modernisation, Karsten Wildberger.

โ€œThe growing demand for cloud solutions shows that digital transformation in our country is progressing well. We are pleased about increasing investments, both from Germany and internationally, and expressly welcome this investment.

โ€œIt strengthens our digital infrastructure and enables companies and public authorities to benefit from state-of-the-art AI and cloud technologies. We want to continue on this path together with the private sector and further expand Germanyโ€™s role as a leading digital location in Europe.โ€
