Eizo has announced the FlexScan FLT, standing for “Future Leading Technology”, which it claims is the world’s most power-efficient monitor. It’s the first to achieve the Class A rank on the European Energy Label.
Eizo claims that it hits three key factors to achieve this rank: it’s lightweight and sleek (reducing emissions during transit and manufacture), and it’s sustainable.
The FlexScan FLT is a 23.8in monitor with a Full HD resolution, so 1,920 x 1,080. It also weighs a mere 2.4kg – roughly half the typical weight of a 24in monitor – in part because Eizo mounts it on an arm rather than a stand.
Its bezel is roughly one inch thick, but Eizo says what marks it out is its “distinct ‘hollow’ bezel design [which] offers a frameless appearance, further elevating its modern, future-inspired aesthetic”.
USB-C portsSlick arm design
The arm includes a clamp for “effortless attachment and removal by simply twisting the base”.
There’s one other noteworthy feature too: you can power the Eizo FlexScan FLT through a USB-C port. So you don’t need to connect it to an AC adapter. Providing your power source is strong enough, the FLT can also power a laptop – delivering up to 60W.
The monitor itself typically needs 6W, again half the amount we usually see. And users can check exactly how much electricity the monitor is consuming through a real-time status in the on-screen-display.
TCO Certified Generation 10
In addition to the Class A rank on the European Energy Label, the FlexScan FLT has achieved TCO Certified Generation 10 status. Only launched this week, this is “the highest tier of EPEAT Gold and the EPEAT Climate+ designation” said Eizo.
Eizo has form here. It has always put environmental considerations near the top of its development priorities. And, in contrast to many companies, it says it has “accelerated its efforts and committed to achieve carbon neutrality across the entire value chain by 2040”.
In particular, the FlexScan FLT is part of its “Transition to Net Zero” plan.
Here’s a quick summary of how the FLT achieved this:
Automatically adjusts brightness depending on both ambient lighting and the content on-screen, reducing typical power demands to 6W
Housing incorporates 95% recycled plastic
Packaging and cushioning are also made from recycled materials
Increased loading efficiency by approximately 50% and a decrease in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions during transport by up to 42%
Corporate customers have options for collective packaging, with or without desk stands, to further reduce overall waste and streamline installation time
“From the procurement and manufacturing to shipping and usage, the GHG emissions throughout the entire product lifecycle of the FLT have been reduced by approximately 32% compared to a previous 23.8-inch monitor,” said Eizo in a statement.
Eizo FlexScan FLT price and availability
Eizo states that the FlexScan FLT will begin shipping in December, but this is likely referring to Japan – Eizo’s home country. We don’t expect to see it shipping worldwide until early 2025. And so far, we don’t have prices.
