Dell Pro Precision 7 R1 rack workstation now available to order

The Dell Pro Precision 7 R1, a 1U rack workstation aimed at engineers, data scientists and creators, is now available for order. Its promise: high-performance computing in the tightest of spots, giving demanding users access to workstation-level power when they don’t have space on their desks.

This workstation is also designed for remote environments, so a worker can connect to their own system from wherever in the world they happen to be working.

Dell’s promise is that the Dell Pro Precision 7 R1 will “transform how organisations approach centralised computing by enabling secure, remote 1:1 workstation deployments,” according to the blog that announced the workstation in May.

“This compact powerhouse delivers the performance engineers, creators and data scientists need while occupying minimal rack space,” it added.

Four promises of the Dell Pro Precision 7 R1

Here are the four key promises of the design:

  • Slim form factor. “Provides a centralised deployment in dense data centres, edge locations and industrial settings without expansive floor space,” to quote the blog.
  • Exceptional performance. “Powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 2 Desktop processors and NVIDIA RTX PRO Blackwell GPUs up to 300W for AI inference, 3D rendering and visualisation workloads, with up to 128GB DDR5 ECC memory for faster multitasking and fewer bottlenecks.”
  • Versatile expandability. “Offers storage flexibility for diverse workflows with up to 64TB and three PCIe expansion slots for workload-specific customisation.”
  • Enterprise reliability. “Provides dual redundant 800W power supplies for continuous 24/7 operation”

Here’s how the front and back break down in terms of ports:
