Cisco launches Data Fabric for AI-ready machine data

Cisco has unveiled the Cisco Data Fabric, a new architecture designed to help enterprises use their machine data for artificial intelligence applications at scale.

Built on Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Cloud Platform, the Cisco Data Fabric aims to cut the cost and complexity of managing machine data while enabling organisations to train custom AI models, power agentic workflows and extract insights from combined machine and business data.

“Organisations everywhere are sitting on a gold mine of machine data that’s been too complex, cumbersome, and costly to leverage for AI, until today,” said Cisco President and Chief Product Officer Jeetu Patel.

“From sensor readings and factory metrics to checkout system data and event updates from apps, servers, networks and more, machine data drives how businesses operate,” he added.

“Splunk revolutionized data and analytics for the cloud. And now, the Cisco Data Fabric is poised to do the same for AI by making it possible for enterprises to build AI models with their own proprietary machine data.”

Cisco said the Data Fabric offers a unified data foundation that spans edge, cloud and on-premises environments. It includes capabilities such as cross-domain, real-time search and analysis, flexible open architecture, and a soon-to-be available Time Series Foundation Model for anomaly detection and forecasting.

Cisco Data Fabric: fast, secure path

The platform also features Cisco AI Canvas a virtual “war room” to allow teams and AI agents to orchestrate workflows and investigations in real-time. 

“Our goal is to give customers the fastest, most secure path from data to action,” said Splunk SVP and GM Kamal Hathi.

“By embedding AI across the platform and embracing open standards, we’re not just helping organisations analyse information faster – we’re enabling them to anticipate change, scale innovation without unnecessary complexity, and deliver digital services that are more resilient, adaptive and responsive to the needs of their users.”

The Cisco Data Fabric is available today, with additional features rolling out through 2026. Upcoming releases include Replay S3 for Federated Analytics in October 2025, the Time Series Foundation Model listed on Hugging Face, an open-source community, in November 2025, and AI Canvas integration with Splunk and Splunk Machine Data Lake in 2026.
