Adobe adds AI video tools and invests $5 million to accelerate careers of up-and-coming creators

Along with a set of AI-powered enhancements to its video-editing tools, Adobe has announced a $5 million boost to its Film and TV Fund. Its aim: to benefit up-and-coming filmmakers and content producers alike.

Adobe set up its Film & TV Fund last year to help underrepresented creators, with an initial investment of $6 million. Adobe hopes that this new commitment, along with the addition of AI-editing tools, will accelerate the careers of up-and-coming talent in the film and TV industry.

Ashley Still, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Adobe Creative Cloud, said: “We’re passionate about empowering filmmakers to tell their stories and realise their creative visions. These innovations will bring time savings and career support so they can focus on inspiring and captivating audiences worldwide.”

Adobe AI video editing tools

Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects are the prime beneficiaries of the AI innovations designed to streamline the editing and post-production process. Among those innovations is a new “Media Intelligence and Search Panel”, which helps video editors more easily find film clips from Adobe’s massive media libraries.ย

Many of the new features come from community requests. In addition to the new “Media Intelligence and Search Panel”, Adobe Premiere now features a “Caption Translation” feature, allowing for native caption translation in 17 languages. Previously, film editors had to perform manual translations, which increases production time and expense.

After Effects, a popular video effect platform, now has improved caching, meaning compositions can be played back immediately after they have been cached. HDR (high dynamic range) support has also been improved, making it easier to import, export and monitor HDR content. This results in motion design work that is brighter and more vivid than previously capable.ย

All these features are currently in beta.

Improvements to Frame.io

Finally, Frame.io received additional support for Camera to Cloud (C2C) for Canon EOS C80 and EOS C400 cameras. This update makes it possible to collaborate in real-time, accelerate video workflows, and have a smoother transition from production to post-processes.

It further removes the need for manual file transfers, as media gets automatically uploaded as it is being captured. This is a big boon for remote teams, who often face delays and roadblocks as they wait for file transfers in different locations.

“The ‘review with Frame.io’ panel is a godsend!” said Benjamin Shearn, editor of By Design. “Especially when you need to quickly digest feedback. On this show, I used it to render cuts directly to my account where Amanda and the Producers added notes and then downloaded them as comment markers. Then, next round: rinse, repeat. Brilliant.”
