TCL launches 7.2in NXTPAPER 60 Ultra smartphone

TCL has gone big at IFA 2025, launching a giant phone that could be ideal for business users. Its unique point of difference is a 7.2in screen that’s designed to be eye-friendly, with a matt finish and ability to switch into an e-paper-like mode.

This is the fourth generation of TCL’s screen technology, which it calls NXTPAPER 4.0, and it promises seven ways to improve eye care:

  • natural light display
  • zero flickering
  • blue light purification
  • reflection-free and anti-glare viewing
  • dim-light eye protection
  • circadian screen comfort
  • TruePaper Restoration technology

In a pre-briefing, TCL explained that it uses Circular Polarised Light (CPL) technology, which means the light wave “rotates in a circular motion to mimic natural light”. Think circular rather than straight up and downs.

But the most striking technology is NXTPAPER 4.0. We won’t even try to explain how this works, but the end result is a display that genuinely looks like paper. And at nighttime you can pull the screen brightness down to an astonishingly dim two nits. Time to pass on your Kindle, perhaps.

TCL also talks about fitting in with your circadian rhythm. The idea is that you’ll see vivid colours by day, “warmer tones by night”.

The final ingredient – and one that could turn this into a genuine tool – is that you can buy an upgrade package at point of purchase that includes a stylus called T-Pen Magic.

A MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chipset powers the phone, which is a solid but not an exceptional choice. It does support AI features, however, and TCL claims that you will enjoy AI-powered reading that can turn a book into a podcast. We’ll wait to try that before commenting further.

It’s IP68 resistant, includes a beefy 5,200mAh battery with 33W fast charging, and works with “magnetic modular accessories” that we’re hoping might mean battery packs. There’s also a 50MP zoom camera and a 50MP main camera.

In terms of OS updates, TCL promises three years of OS updates and seven years of security updates.

The TCL NXTPAPER 60 Ultra is available now in the UK with 512GB of storage and the T-Pen Magic £449. In Europe, the bundle version costs 499 Euros if you buy the 256GB version, 449 Euros without. Add 50 Euros to each price if you want 512GB of storage.

This phone is also available in LATAM and APAC regions, but we don’t yet have prices.
