Lenovo has unveiled a new addition to its ChromeOS line-up with the launch of its tenth-generation Chromebook Plus.
Lenovo has given its latest Chromebook Plus a processor upgrade: the laptop runs on MediaTek processor with an NPU capable of 50 TOPS.
This high-powered NPU means the Chromebook Plus can deliver advanced AI features on the device rather than via the cloud, similarly to Microsoft’s Copilot+ PCs.
Lenovo flags “Select to search with Lens”, with the promise that will identify anything on your screen without you needing to switch tabs.
There’s also text capture. This uses “optical character recognition to identify and add dates and text to Calendar and Docs from any of your documents, emails or photos”, according to Lenovo.
There’s also an upgraded version of Google’s Help Me Read, which “simplifies jargon-filled text and lets you ask follow-up questions to help remember and learn”.
“The Lenovo Chromebook Plus (14โ, 10) delivers the most powerful AI capabilities ever on a Chromebook,” said Benny Zhang, Executive Director and General Manager of Chromebooks in Lenovoโs Intelligent Devices Group.
“Whether you are an executive needing AI performance through the day, an artist wishing to create outside the studio, or an everyday user looking to browse, learn or play, this premium device is your perfect everyday companion.โ
Premium, professional: Lenovo Chromebook Plus Gen 10
The Chromebook Plus Gen 10 also offers up to 16GB of memory, with internal storage topping out at 256GB.
For the connectivity minded, the Chromebook Plus comes with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. It also includes two USB-C ports, one USB-A and an audio jack, adding up to a well-connected device.
Lenovo estimates the battery life at 17 hours – a figure that Lenovo claims is the highest of any Chromebook – thanks to its 60Wh Li-polymer battery.ย If that runs dry, Lenovo reckons it can reach 80% capacity in one hour.
The device sports a 14in OLED display with a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution and a peak brightness of 400 nits. The model is also available with an optional touchscreen.
It should sound good, too, with four 2W speakers that support Dolby Atmos onboard. For those with a packed videoconference schedule, there’s a 5-megapixel camera with physical shutter.
The Lenovo Chromebook Plus weighs 1.17kg (add another 100g or so for the touchscreen model). It’s also compact, measuring 314mm by 219mm with a 15.8mm thickness.
Lenovo Chromebook Plus Gen 10: price and availability
Pricing for the new Chromebook Plus – available to seashell and lunar grey – starts at $649 or ยฃ549, which includes a 12-month Google AI Pro subscription and 2TB of cloud storage.
Lenovo is aiming the device at “professionals, students and creators”, although the education market still accounts for the vast majority of Chromebook sales.
According to data from researchers Canalys, Lenovo is the biggest maker of desktops and laptops worldwide, accounting for over 24% of the market in the first quarter of this year. The company shipped over 15 million devices in the quarter, the company reported.
Google doesn’t publish sales figures for Chromebooks but analysts estimate sales were around 21 million in 2024, and will rise slightly to over 22 million this year.
