Intel recently announced the release of a set of graphic cards under the code-name “Battlemage”. The cards fall under the umbrella of the Arc B-Series and consist of the Intel Arc B580 and B570 GPUs.
They’re not attempting to outpace Nvidia’s top-end RTX cards. Instead, their targeted at gamers on the hunt for high frame rates at an affordable price. In the B580’s case, $249.
In particular, Intel claims that the Intel Arc B580 provides “best-in-class performance per dollar”. The “class” in question is cards priced between $250 and $300 tested “across 40+ games in rasterized and ray-traced settings at 1440p Ultra”.
Based on Intel’s latest Xe2 architecture, the Intel Arc B-Series GPUs rely on new X-cores that use “high-performance” XMX AI engines to achieve better ray tracing performance, improved mesh shading and a higher level of support for key graphic functions.
Intel is leaning heavily on the AI in its XeSS 2 architecture, now supported by more than 150 games. Similarly to AMD and Nvidia technology, this boosts frame rates by creating interpolated frames.
The new architecture is built upon three technologies, including XeSS Super Resolution, XeSS Frame Generation and Xe Low Latency. Combined, the three underlying technologies add the following capabilities:
Speaking on the new graphic card series, Vivian Lien, Intel Vice President stated: “The new Intel Arc B-Series GPUs are the perfect upgrades for gamers. They deliver leading performance-per-dollar and great 1440p gaming experiences with XeSS 2, second-generation ray tracing engines and XMX AI engines. We’re delighted to be joined by more partners than ever so that gamers have more choice in finding their perfect design.”
