Samsara public sector strategy is becoming more hands-on with the launch of its 2026 Public Sector Customer Advisory Board, announced in Chicago on May 11, 2026. The board brings together leaders from city fleets, utilities, airports, transport departments and emergency services to help Samsara co-develop AI tools for the operational realities of public service.
This is more than a customer-feedback exercise. Samsara says earlier advisory board input helped shape features such as fuel theft detection alerts and Weather Intelligence, both aimed at reducing costs and improving service reliability for agencies managing public assets.
That focus is timely.
Gartner forecasts global enterprise IT spending across government and education to reach $861.4 billion in 2026, up 6.1%, showing that public sector technology budgets are still growing despite pressure to prove value.
For Samsara, the board also strengthens its broader โPhysical AIโ narrative. As we previously noted in our analysis of Samsaraโs $1.89 billion ARR milestone, the companyโs advantage lies in applying AI to vehicles, equipment and frontline workflows rather than abstract productivity use cases.
The strongest public sector use cases are practical: spotting fuel misuse, improving driver safety, supporting weather-aware routing and giving managers clearer visibility into assets. Thatโs important when weather alone contributes to nearly 745,000 crashes, more than 3,800 deaths and over 268,000 injuries annually in the US, according to the Federal Highway Administration.
The public sector test for connected AI
Still, connected government operations introduce governance risks. More sensors, cameras and dashboards mean more data to protect. As we recently explained in our coverage IoT devices and DDoS botnets, connected infrastructure can expand the attack surface when security lags adoption.
That makes trust central to the Samsara public sector opportunity. Public agencies need AI that is useful, auditable and secure. The same principle underpins wider government AI efforts, including privacy-first AI for government and defence.
Samsaraโs advisory board gives it a route to build with public agencies, not just sell to them. That could be the difference between AI that looks good in a demo and AI that improves daily public service delivery.
