How Juniper Networks’ Mist AI is helping US school districts boost speeds and reduce downtime

A partnership with Juniper Networks has overhauled a US school district’s network performance, with the company’s Mist AI cutting troubleshooting times by 80%.

Port Huron Area School District (PHASD) in Michigan partnered with Juniper Networks to upgrade its outdated wired and wireless networks to improve the connectivity and reliability for approximately 7,500 students across 16 public schools.

Powered by Mist AI, it gives the school districtโ€™s IT department access to automation capabilities and insights to find and fix problems faster.

Since the implementation, PHASD has reported a substantial improvement in wireless stability and class performance. Troubleshooting time has also dropped by 80%, freeing the IT department to focus on more strategic tasks, such as enhancing the data centre and ensuring student and teacher devices are network-ready, particularly for testing days.ย

โ€œPHASDโ€™s vision is to provide a personalised, world-class education for every student,โ€ said PHASD Senior Network Engineer James Marsack.

โ€œTo achieve this, we are committed to supporting our studentsโ€™ success both inside and outside the classroom, continuously improving our practices and programs to drive academic achievement. Juniperโ€™s AI-native networking technology enables us to enhance digital learning, streamline operations and enable innovative educational experiences that prepare students for their future.”

The specific products that were deployed as part of the overhaul included Juniperโ€™s EX Series Ethernet switches, access points, Mist Wired Assurance, Mist Wireless Assurance and the Marvis Virtual Network Assistant.ย

Juniper added that its solutions have also helped PHASD strategically reallocate resources, allowing the district to focus on building innovative educational initiatives that can help drive future academic success for students while minimising cost.

Juniper Networks Product Marketing Group VP Jeff Aaron highlighted the broader impact of these upgrades.

โ€œIt is essential for schools to embrace advanced technologies that significantly enhance learning while optimising costs and operational efficiency,โ€ he said.

โ€œJuniperโ€™s AI-native networking technology is at the forefront of this transformation, enabling PHASD to establish a high-performance, secure network that provides seamless access to digital tools and resources.

By leveraging AI, the district can strategically reallocate resources to innovative educational initiatives, thereby enabling student success and empowering educators to deliver innovative learning experiences.โ€
