TCL launches RayNeo X2 Lite AR smart glasses

Never mind the giant micro-LED TVs that TCL announced at CES 2024: we care about the ultra-light TCL RayNeo X2 Lite AR glasses. These were the “one last thing” of the company’s CES keynote, promising all the features in a lightweight 60g package.

They still look like AR glasses, with thick arms and borders around the lenses. However, you need the latter to include all the tech packed within. Top of the list is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 chip, with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

Unlike some recent launches of smart glasses, you get everything you might expect. So a camera to record what’s going on, mics and speakers, plus both Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth.

What the RayNeo X2 Lite AR smart glasses can do

This means the RayNeo X2 Lite glasses can do everything you might expect: act as an AI assistant, stream video, snap pictures, make calls, real-time translation, and provide a heads-up display.

For example, let’s say you’re cycling from from A to B. You will see an overlay on the glasses that shows your speed, the next turn and how far it is to your destination. Or if you’re walking through a confusing Las Vegas hotel, you can see directions of how to get to the exit.

With micro-LED technology, 640 x 480 pixels and a peak brightness of 1,500cd/m2, we expect the display to be easy to view too.

TCL is even promising a 3D avatar chatbot that you can ask questions. It will answer through the speakers in the glasses’ arms and with a text overlay.

There’s even talk of listening to music, with a Whisper Mode to prevent leakage that might otherwise annoy your neighbours.

All this is for the future. For now, the only demo we saw was of the X2 Lite glasses taking a video. See the images below.

TCL RayNeo X2 Lite glasses price and availability

Now for the bad news. TCL says the RayNeo X2 Lite glasses will go on sale in Q2 2024, so we have some time to wait. And last time, the RayNeo X2 glasses were sold out in a matter of days, raising questions about availability.

We’re also waiting for a price, but the RayNeo X2 smart glasses cost about $800 so don’t expect them to be cheap.
